Chinese organization CIIL opens their office in The Hague

PRESS RELEASE The Hague, 12 June – The international cluster of Peace & Justice in The Hague is an organization richer. As of today, the Chinese Initiative on International Law (CIIL) will be operating from its The Hague office in the multi-tenanted block for international organizations located on the Laan van Meerdervoort. CIIL’s primary focus will be on drawing the attention of Chinese academia, media and government to international law. According to CIIL’s Office Director The Hague Office, Ms Yingqing Gong “the promotion and encouragement of a global dialogue on international law cannot overlook the participation, and inclusion of China.

CIIL’s new office intends to function as a bridge between The Hague and China, and launch exchange programmes between Dutch and Chinese students. As ms Gong states, “considering the status of The Hague as the international city of peace and justice and global capital of international law, we believe that setting up a branch office in The Hague will be of great benefit for realizing our mandate and assisting the work of CIIL.”

The acquisition of international organizations (IOs) is a top priority for the city’s agenda. By expanding the cluster of international congresses, organizations & companies, The Hague aims to strengthen its reputation of being the international City of Peace & Justice. Last year’s Decisio report, on the economic impact of IOs in The Hague, already highlighted the far-reaching effects of such a policy in terms of job creation for the city. Aside from the direct employment created by these organizations, on average 1 extra fulltime position (FTE) is created as the result of consumption expenditure by international employees and corporate orders with local service providers.
