Company of the Month November | Air Energi

Air Energi is a global oil and gas manpower consultancy with operations in more than 50 countries. They work in partnership with many of the world’s largest operators and engineering companies. Three years ago, a significant contract award was the basis of their entry into the Dutch market.

In September 2011, Air Energi Netherlands opened its doors in central Den Haag. Since then, they have carefully expanded their operation and firmly established themselves as a supplier of choice to Dutch clients involved in the oil and gas industry.

Oil and gas is the only sector in which they work. This means they have trusted expertise and can support the entire project lifecycle, from exploration through to construction, operations and maintenance. They also have access to the best engineers in the industry.

Growth in the Netherlands
In three years, Air Energi Netherlands has grown from a single person start up to a fully operational team. “As we have expanded, we have moved into larger offices and gained important Dutch accreditations (VCU-VIL and NEN4400) which demonstrate our business compliance and HSSE credentials.”

Air Energi‘s business model globally is based on transparency, providing the highest standard of technical recruitment (consultants and permanent staff) and understanding of the local business culture in which they are operating. They have followed this model with great success in the Netherlands which has allowed them to expand their client base, win contracts and consistently meet their sales targets.

Despite operating in this congested market, Air Energi has been always confident that there was a place for its brand of strategic collaboration, and this is proving to be the case.

The wider market
The oil and gas market, globally and regionally, is currently experiencing something of a ‘levelling off’ period after years of recession proof growth. As a result, many of their clients are undergoing well-publicised periods of cost reduction activity and project reviews. Despite this backdrop, the company still feel very confident that the Dutch oil and gas market will remain profitable and that activity will continue. For example, South Holland acts as the European hub for many industry players and the Dutch Marine Construction industry is among the best in the world.

“Even though the Netherlands does not boast many large capital projects, significant global projects are devised and designed here and this activity ensures a busy market.”

Working with the WFIA
“The WFIA and the NFIA (The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency) has played an integral part in our successful start up and it has remained a close ally of ours to this day. We were advised by the WFIA several months before we entered the country. From the early basics (arranging office viewings and connecting our staff with real estate agencies) to registration necessities (KVK/SOFI numbers and bank accounts) and more personal aspects such as showing us round the city, the organisation has been a great source of support.

As a group we regularly enter new business markets all over the globe and if we had a WFIA-style organisation in place everywhere, this task would be made a whole lot easier. The fact that this service is free, coupled with the consistently helpful nature of the whole WFIA team, makes the organisation a must for any international business thinking about entering the Dutch market.
